Good value, minor integration hiccup

I purchased an annual plan for the Image Generation API, mainly for our e-commerce product image automation. The setup was fairly straightforward, and the documentation was helpful. The API itself is robust and saved us a lot of time compared to manual image creation. I did encounter a small issue integrating with a less common platform, which required a bit more custom coding than I anticipated. Customer support was responsive, though, and pointed me in the right direction. Overall, a solid tool for the price, but maybe not entirely plug-and-play for every niche use case.

Reliable API, consistent performance

This was my third time using Bannerbear, this time for the Video Generation API to create dynamic Twitter cards. I've always found their service consistent. My previous experiences with the Image Generation API and the Zapier integration were smooth, and this was no different. The video templates are flexible, and the API calls were quick, just as I expected. It's reassuring to know I can rely on them for these kinds of projects without unexpected issues. Their updates always seem to improve things, never break them.

Saved money on annual plan

I needed a solution for automated social media graphics and found Bannerbear. Opted for the annual plan right away after seeing the 10% discount. It was a good decision. The free trial gave me enough credits to test it thoroughly before committing. The pricing structure is clear, and I felt I got good value for my money, especially with the discount.

Just started the free trial and trying to figure out how many credits I actually get. The website says 'free credits' but not a number. Anyone know?

M MeeraJ 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer
It depends sometimes. I got 100 when I signed up with a developer trial link from a blog post. Might be worth looking for those.

I just went for the regular free trial and got 50. What happens if you run out though?

Yep, exactly. It stops working until you get more.

You just can't generate anything else until you upgrade or they renew monthly credits.

A AnkitM 1 month ago
I think it's usually around 50 credits to start with. Enough to test out some image generation features.

Yeah, mine was 50 too. Pretty good for initial testing.

Thinking of switching over to Bannerbear from Canva for automated social media graphics. Anyone done this? Is Bannerbear actually better for automation?

A ArjunK 1 week ago ✓ Best Answer
Totally different tools really. Canva is great for manual design, Bannerbear is purely for automation via API. If you need to generate hundreds of variations from a template, BB is definitely better. Canva's automation features are pretty basic by comparison.

G gamerraj 1 week ago
Yeah, for scale, BB wins hands down. Canva isn't built for that kind of programmatic generation.

T techfreak 1 week ago
This is what I was hoping to hear. I need to auto-generate personalized images for emails.

S SanjayV 1 week ago
Depends on your definition of 'better'. If you're not a coder, Canva is probably easier to get started. But if you're looking for true automation and dynamic content, BB is the way to go. It's more of a developer tool.

T techfreak 1 week ago
Makes sense. I'm comfortable with APIs so that's not an issue.

R Rahul 1 week ago
Not a no-code tool then, right?

I used both for a bit. Canva for quick edits and BB for dynamic stuff like open graph images and personalized email images. BB's API is super solid for that.

Good to know. How easy was the integration with, say, Zapier?
5
P PoojaR 1 week ago
Pretty straightforward actually, they have a dedicated Zapier integration. Less hassle than I expected.

Has anyone switched from Placid to Bannerbear? Wondering if it's worth the hassle, especially for video stuff.

C Colin Okafor 2 months ago
I moved over from Creatomate a few months back. Bannerbear's video API feels a lot more robust to me, and the documentation was super clear for integrating it.

D David Q. 2 months ago
Depends what you're doing. For simple banner stuff, they're both pretty good. For complex dynamic video, Bannerbear might have the edge. I'd try the free trial and see for yourself, it's pretty generous.

I'm looking at the pricing, and it mentions annual discounts. Is that just applied automatically, or do I need a special code?

C Chris Foster 1 month ago
If you select the annual option when signing up, the discount gets applied automatically at checkout. No promo code needed usually.
3
L Lisa Whitfield 1 month ago
Most of the time it just applies when you choose the yearly billing. I think sometimes they have extra promo codes for like Black Friday, but for the standard annual discount, it's automatic.

Thinking of trying Bannerbear for some automated social posts. How many image generations do you get with the free trial?

M Marcus 1 month ago
I think it's 100 API credits. Should be enough to kick the tires and see if it fits your workflow.
5
S Steve Q. 1 month ago
Yeah, 100 credits for images and videos. Just remember that video generations use up more credits than images, so plan accordingly if you're testing that out.

if i run out of credits mid-month, do my automations just stop working?

D Dana 2 months ago
Yup, if you hit zero credits, your API calls will start failing. You'd need to upgrade your plan or wait for the next billing cycle.
5
O Omar A. 2 months ago
They stop. Learned that the hard way, haha. You'll get an error back from the API. Just gotta top up or wait for your next month's credits.

My startup is really bootstrapped right now. Do they offer any kind of discount for new businesses?

N Noor Silva 1 month ago
I heard they do! I think there's a startup program you can apply for, might be worth checking their site or just asking support.

B Brett E. 1 month ago
Yeah, they do have a startup discount. Not sure of the exact criteria but it's definitely something they offer.
